Therapeutic Touch

Therapeutic touch (TT) is an energy intervention developed by Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN, and the late Dora van Gelder Kunz, renowned healer. Contrary to its name, TT does not involve actual touch, but is administered to clients without touching them. Therapists place their hands over the body and work with the energy fields that surround it. This energy therapy has distinct phases that include centering oneself, assessment, clearing the energetic field, and directing and modulating energy. It is used by nurses throughout the world to reduce pain, induce relaxation, and increase healing in the body. Therapeutic touch is recognized as a biofield therapy by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).
