Our Story
Our company’s beginnings date back to when our founder, Flora Stay --- a practicing dentist, was unable to find chemically safe toothpaste for her patients. Even the well-recognized “natural” toothpastes found in the natural products stores do not meet the strict standards she has for patients. For example, many of these more natural products contain sodium lauryl sulfate, a harsh detergent which is added to toothpastes, shampoos and other personal care products to make the products foam. Dr. Stay investigated the research on sodium lauryl sulfates and found that they may cause outbreaks of canker sores. These very same products are packaged in aluminum tubes, which if the aluminum is punctured will cause the aluminum to contaminate the toothpaste. Dr. Stay’s attention to detail in treating patients has translated into the same painstaking process in formulating products and selecting appropriate packaging material.
Dr. Stay is now recognized as a leading authority on developing safe and effective products. She became a contributing author to Women and Health, Herbal Health, Health and Aging, and Natural Prescriptions for Women. She has written for or been interviewed in many publications, including Prevention, Men's Health, Women's World, the Ventura County Star, and the New York Times. Dr. Stay has authored the book, The Fibromyalgia Dental Handbook, a 200+ page book published by Marlowe & Company, New York.

Dr. Stay leads a team of experts who incorporate the latest research in our on-going new product development. From dental products and skin care to cosmetics and hair care, Cleure offers the discerning shopper a very pure line of products. The public is much more aware of the impact of chemicals and their effect on long term health, prompting people to actively search for more than just “natural” products in favor of safe, salicylate-free products.
